| Gigs : The NWOBHM 25th Anniversay gig - London, Astoria Nov 4, 2005 |

  A short review of the much anticipated NWOBHM 25 Anniversary gig in London. Our contributor Mario went all the way from Spain to attend the show and reported his impressions for us!
Historical date that of this festival, celebrating the 25 Anniversary of the NWOBHM in the venue Astoria of London. The concert opened with Jaguar maybe a bit too early in the afternoon, when too few people was in the venue. The show was very short, it lasted only 30 minutes but was very intense and I enjoyed it very much; among the songs played we had the pleasure to listen to classics such as " Dutch Connection ", "Axe Crazy", " War Machine", "Back Street Woman" and also a bit of the newer stuff as " Run Ragged " was chosen as the opener. It has to be said that the new singer is a real lunatic on stage!

| Old Warriors! : EF BAND - Live at the Mudd Club 1983 |

 Recorded back in 1983 at the Mudd Club in Goteborg, Sweden, this live album is a proud document of the premier oddity of the whole NWOBHM movement. That's right, a true oddity, because - for the two or three people who don't already know - the mighty E.F. Band was the only non-british band (Swedish, to be exact) to be adopted as a legitimate part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. And throughout its existence, the E.F. Band has always honored this privilege crafting great melodic yet fierce heavy metal up to par with the best of their 100% british counterparts. Andy Goodwin, the man who is keeping the memory of the band alive in the Third Millennium, has assembled this excellent live album featuring a full live performance of the E.F. Band in its Eliason/Fischer/Ericson/Ridge incarnation perfectly capturing the sheer energy of the band. |

 The METAL GODS NWOBHM RADIO SHOW takes a break for the summer. The oldest, most massive NWOBHM webcast on the web will return in full force in September, but before leaving, let's enjoy another 24 HOURS of vintage HM, denim and leather, chains and spikes, long hair flowing, three-finger salute and everything that made us crazy in the 80's and still drives us mad in the 00's! Exceptionally for this week, we'll have a full webcast from 00:00 to 24:00 GMT of Wednesday, July 27. So if you need some action and nothing comes around, don't call the doctor, turn up the sound!  The line-up for the much-awaited NWOBHM gig in Hoorn, Holland, to take place
on October 29, has been finalized. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the metal
movement we all still love and keep alive, the show will feature four historical
british bands (BLITZKRIEG, WITCHFYNDE, AVENGER and PREDATUR), some british newcomers
heavily influenced by the masters (Conquest of Steel) and two dutch bands (Sad
Iron and Blackout), guaranteed to light up the night with some good old heavy

| Updates : The BLACK ROSE blooms again! |

 After their break-up in 1989, Slatburn's Black Rose are about to return on the
scene with a brand new product. It's surely a welcome return for the band who
released a series of tough rocking releases during the early 80s such as the "No
Point Runnin" single and the popular "Boys Will Be Boys" album
in 1984, who won them quite a large following, especially in continental Europe.
The guys, who recently appeared on the excellent "Total Metal Attack"
sampler on Old School Records, are currently at work on the new tracks, and on
their official website you can already find samples for
"Love Addiction" and "Better to Burn Out", two songs of their
"new course", shifting the musical direction towards Van Halen-esque
territories. We had the chance to share some views with guitarist Chris "Wah
Wah" Watson, the main man behind Black Rose's return, about the current state
of affairs of his band, who also gave us his view of the significance of the whole
original NWOBHM movement. |

 NWOBHM tribute festivals seem to be the hip thing for the months to come. Following
the announcement of the Dutch NWOBHM Ball in October in Hoorn (see a few posts
below), this time it's up to London to host another great event for the Old Guard!
The "25th Anniversary NWOBHM Show" will take place on Friday,
November 4th at the Astoria, and will feature such heavyweights as JAGUAR,
BRONZ, PRAYING MANTIS, WITCHFYNDE and DIAMOND HEAD. Running for about five hours,
the gig brings a significant piece of the Eighties back on stage, and it sounds
like a wonderful night of great heavy metal, golden memories, friendship... and
beer! Garry Pepperd of Jaguar (who have some very nice new mp3 available for download
at their website) says: "Yeah,
the London gig should be good, although we're on pretty early, around 5.30pm!!
I'm looking forward to seeing Diamond Head, I used to love them years ago, I haven't
seen them since '82 or so. I seem to remember seeing Praying Mantis supporting
Iron Maiden all the time years back so that should be good as well. Bronz are
friends of ours so it'll be good to play with them again.We're only on for half
an hour so we need to try and pack in all our best songs!!". Choose
from "Power Games" and "Run Ragged" and you can't go wrong,
guys! On the other hand, the legendary Montalo of the much-loved Witchfynde (pictured
left in a shot by Jowita Kaminska) lives the event with a bit of surprise, noticing
how some things have changed for his band since the beginning "We
have agreed to be involved through our good friends Diamond Head and their manager
- he told us - It does sound like a fantastic gig and there
have been many people wanting to see us in London over the past year or so. We
find this very bizarre and flattering at the same time as in the early days no
one wanted to know us in London. At present we are working to complete our next
album as it would be great to coincide its release with this special anniversary

 Meggido, the british metal outfit featuring former ARAGORN drummer Mike Ellis, have returned on the scene after quite a long time. The powerful and multifaceted drummer who stormed the metal underground in the Eighties with such classics as "Black Ice" and "Noonday" has assembled a new line-up hiring vocalist Iain Miro and bassist Steve Banks, who join guitarist Shaun Dunne. Hailed as one of the most vital contemporary british bands, Meggido are set to hit the road soon. Watch out for them playing live in the following weeks; confirmed dates are 29th May 2005 – Harlow Metal Festival, Essex, 30th May 2005 – Hagfest, Hertfordshire and 8th June 2005 – Rhythm Factory, London. |

Chris Watson of BLACK ROSE proudly informs the Metal Gods community about the
long-awaited release of the ultimate anthology of his band. In his own words,
"the new cd from Black Rose has just been released
on the Majestic Rock label. It has 15 tracks from 1981-87 featuring songs from
both studio albums, first single and various ep's, as well as a couple of previously
unreleased demo tracks. The CD is called "Bright Lights Burnin' - The Anthology"
and is available from Majestic Rock and other internet record websites".
The hackers have stopped us, but only just. Metal Gods is up and running again. Thanks to all the people who have expressed their solidarity while the website was down and made us feel our efforts were worthwhile. But, enough with the celebrations, we're back in action and we'll keep on lifting up the old, worn out, but still proud NWOBHM flag. Old School, tough to defeat. "Where were you in '79, when the dam began to burst?"
